FAQ on Synthetic Grass

Synthetic Grass Frequently Asked Questions

What is synthetic grass made of?

Synthetic or artifical grass is made with different materials by different suppliers. Ours is made of nylon. We think it gives the most natural look and provides the best set of benefits – it lasts longer, doesn’t fade and stands up to hard use in applications like dog agility training or golf practice greens.

You will receive an 8-15 year warranty dependent upon the product used.

What are the advantages of synthetic grass?

It requires way less maintenance than real grass.

  • No watering.
  • No mowing.
  • No aerating.
  • No fertilizing.

It looks good from the moment the snow melts to the moment it falls again in the winter, and you don’t have to do anything to it.

How much does synthetic grass cost?

It is difficult to give an exact cost as there are many factors that play into the final price, such site access, soil quality and type of synthetic turf selected.

Can I install artificial grass on top of my existing lawn?

We don’t recommend it. Installing over an existing lawn creates an uneven surface for the base of your new synthetic lawn and the area will not drain properly. The surface should be as level as possible, with a layer of aggregate (crushed stone) to help with leveling and drainage.

Is artificial turf safe for a home garden?

Of course. In fact, you can expand your garden and still save money, since you don’t have maintenance costs with your synthetic turf.

Can you put artificial grass on paving slabs? Can I lay artificial grass on soil, or concrete?

No. We recommend an aggregate base (4-6 inches). This allows drainage and supports the natural appearance of your new synthetic lawn.

Do you water synthetic turf?

You can, but it doesn’t improve your synthetic lawn in any meaningful way. Sometimes the appearance of water droplets look nice on your lawn, but morning dew and normal rain are enough to wash away any appearance-dulling dust.

Watering is not necessary.

How to maintain my artificial turf?

Rainfall is the best faux turf cleanser, as well as the cheapest! However, if you live in an area where rain is a rarity, a quick spray with a water hose can eliminate dust or pollen that may be present.

For lightly soiled areas, a basic mixture of warm water with a 5% solution of a mild household detergent can work wonders! Simply sponge mop the affected spot and then rinse.

For areas that are more heavily soiled, use the above procedure before then sponge mopping the area with a 3% solution of household ammonia in hot water. When this has been completed, rinse the area thoroughly with warm water.

Is artificial grass pet-friendly?

It is! You can treat it just like real grass. Always allow solid waste to dry and then dispose of it however you normally would.

Is a synthetic grass lawn good or bad for the environment?

Synthetic grass allows you to reduce your use of water and chemicals. It’s 100% recyclable and made from recycled materials.

It’s an environmentally friendly choice no matter how you look at it.

How long does artificial grass last?

The synthetic turf we use is guaranteed to last at least 8-15 years depending on the grade of turf selected. But with proper care, yours will last as long as you need it to.

Can artificial grass be repaired?

The easiest way to repair your artificial grass is to replace the damaged section. It’s just like patching drywall in your house (only much easier). Just cut the damaged square out, then measure out a new section to put in. Glue the new section in and you’re done.

Is artificial turf permeable? How does artificial grass drain?

Yes. Water drains through the artificial turf and the crushed stone base as naturally as with real grass. This is why we never recommend installing it directly on top of pavers or concrete. Drainage is important and our synthetic turf is designed to act just like real turf.
